The creature in the middle is the New Mexico whiptail. It is one of the many creatures in nature which can reproduce through parthenogenesis, which means that it uses asexual reproduction in which the embryos do not require fertilization.
All of the members of the species are female.
This is where the owners of Jurassic Park in the story made their mistake. Since all the creatures were female, they mutated so that they could lay viable eggs. The park owners should have made them all male.
Even though fertilization is not required in New Mexico whiptails, when one female is ready to lay eggs, another comes along and simulates the male activity in sex. They are essentially lesbians.
As a final fun fact, these whiptails are the state reptile for New Mexico.
Don’t show this information to Governor Martinez; she is against same sex unions.
